He was born 13 January 1908 in Kalamazoo, a son of Eli and Elizabeth (Snyder) Snyder. Prior to making his home in the Burr Oak area in 1965, Mr Snyder had resided in Sturgis, Vicksburg and Kalamazoo. He had been employed by Frank W Casselman, Inc., in Sturgis. He was a member of the Pipefitters Union. On October 4, 1947 in Galesburg, he married Vivian Haas. Surviving are his wife; five children: William Snyder, Sr, Newaygo; Robert Snyder, Vicksburg; Mrs Charles (Sandra) Matrau, Newaygo; James Snyder, Sr, Howe, Ind; Mrs Wayne (Kathleen) Wyatt, Burr Oak; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was born 4 August 1911 in Wolcottville, Indiana, a daughter of Ray and Gertrude E (Nelson) Wert. On 27 November 1930, she married Howard W Start, in Sturgis. He died 22 August 1995. She graduated from Sturgis High School and early in her life she worked at the Kirsch Company. Later she and her husband owned and operated the Lakeshore Grain Elevator, Colon. During that time she worked in the office and the remainder of her life she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Burr Oak Home Club and the Colon Baptist Church. Mose of her life she had lived in the Burr Oak and Colon areas. Surviving are her children, Alice and Olen Palmer, Burr Oak, and George W and Isabel Cabello Start, Sequine, Texas; seven grandchileren; 11 great grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Margaret Cowles; and one brother, Elwin Wert. Services were Wednesday at the Colon Baptist Church, with the Rev Aaron A Kaukonen officiating. Burial will follow in the Burr Oak Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Colon Baptist Church.

This is Edward's twin brother, Edwin I. Start, who died on 13 June 1862 at Pittsburg Landing. He was serving in Co. A, 15th MI Inf. He is actually buried or at least listed as being buried in the Shiloh National Cemetery in Tennessee.
Start, Edward and Edwin were born in Baldwinsville, NY and were the sons of John Start and Martha Taggard (both buried in Lot 91, Sec 3). They came to Burr Oak in 1844.
