Age was 39 years, his wife formerly lived in Burr Oak. He was born at Sherwood, Branch Co, Feb 22, 1876, and raised in that vicinity. Later he spent most of his life as a sailor on the great lakes. He was married to Miss Rose Gest of Burr Oak, July 4, 1911, after which he moved to Detroit. After residing there three years, he moved to Sturgis.

She was born 28 March 1915 in LaGrange Township, Indiana, a daughter of Ray and Gertrude (Nelson) Wert. On 2 July 1938, she married Paul H Cowles, at the parsonage of the United Methodist Church, Burr Oak. She had lived in LaGrange Township five years, in Burr Oak Township 20 years, in Sturgis two years, in Bronson four years, and in the Village of Burr Oak the past 47 years. She was a graduate of Sturgis High School in 1933, a homemaker and a member of the Burr Oak United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband; one sister, Katherine Start, Burr Oak; one niece, Alice Palmer, Burr Oak; one nephew, George Start, Texas; five great-nephews; two great-nieces; and many great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Elwin Wert. Services were at the Burr Oak United Methodist Church with the Rev Brian Rafferty officiating. Burial will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Burr Oak United Methodist Church General Fund.

Cummins, Elmira.....not in the original cemetery records. Data gleaned from The Acorn obituary, which reads: "Mrs. Alonson Cummins. Elmira Buttler was born in the State of Ohio, Sept. 16, 1836. In 1852 she was united in marriage with Mr. Alonson Cummins, in Fawn River township, Michigan. Five children, three sons and two daughters, were born to them.

The husband died in 1874, and eight years later, September, 1882, Mrs. Cummins moved to Cheshire township, Allegan county, Mich. For over thirty years she made Cheshire her home, however she made frequent trips to Burr Oak to visit her son.

Last October she was stricken with paralysis, while on a Lake Shore train near White Pigeon, enroute from Kalamazoo to Burr Oak. She was brought to the home of her son in this village and remained there till her death, which occurred last Saturday evening, May 30, 1914. Her age was 77 years, 8 months and 14 days.

Mrs. Cummins is survived by two sons, Filo Delos Cummins of Kalamazoo and Claudias C. Cummins of Burr Oak, and 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

The funeral, Rev Waechter, and Undertaker Renshaw officiating, was held Monday afternoon from the son's residence on Railroad street.

Burial was in the village cemetery. ---- Card of Thanks.
