attack. He was born Burr Oak Township, a son of Thomas Jefferson Reed
and Margaret Althea (Hermance) Reed and had resided in the Burr Oak
and Colon areas all of his life. Both parents were born in St Joseph County,
Michigan. He was graduated from Burr Oak High School in 1925. He was
first married to Georgia Deal and she died 3 June 1949. Mr Reed served
in the United States Navy in Iwo Jima during World War II. On 29 May
1954, he married Mariet Murphy Robbins at LaGrange, Indiana. He was a
member of the Methodist Church in Colon, the Masonic Lodge, F&Am;
the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, DeWitt Clinton Consistory of Grand
Rapids and the Snyder-Lewis-Welty Post 454 of the American Legion. He
was employed by R&I Materials in Howe, Indiana. In addition to his wife,
he is survived by two daughters, Deborah and Annie Marie, both at home;
two step-daughters, Mrs Joseph (Carla) Bogucki, of Burr Oak and Mrs
Darwin (Mary) Wooddman of Colon; nine grandchildren; his mother, who
resides in Burr Oak; three sisters, Mrs Marian Rudd of Battle Creek, Mrs
Gerald G (Maxine) Foster of Burr Oak and Mrs Robert (Margaret) Baad of
Colon; and four brothers, Clayton of Sturgis, William Ira, Robert Nathaniel
and Theron John, all of Burr Oak.

He was born 9 August 1901 in Sturgis to Thomas Jefferson Reed and Margaret Althea (Hermance) Reed of Burr Oak. He was a resident of Burr Oak and Sturgis most of his life before moving to California. He was a graduate of Burr Oak High School, class of 1921. He attended International Business College of Fort Wayne and Metropolitan Business College of Chicago. On 20 June 1928 he married Mabel Klesert in Caledonia, Michigan. She died 30 January 1985. In 1966, he retired from Kirsch where he worked in accounting. He was a member of the Burr Oak United Methodist Church, a past master of Burr Oak Masonic Eagle Lodge 124, a past commander of Columbia Commandry 18 Knights Templar, a charter member of the Sturgis Kiwanis Club, a member of the St Joseph County Farm Bureau and a Managing Board Member of American Accounting Association of Chicago. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs Charles (Marilyn Jean) Warner of Anaheim, California, and Mrs Gene (Elizabeth Jane) Robinson of El Toro, California; three grandchildren; one brother, Robert Reed of Burr Oak; two sisters, Mrs Gerald G (Maxine) Foster of Burr Oak and Mrs Robert (Margaret) Baad of Colon; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters and one son. Services were held at the Burr Oak United Methodist Church with Rev William Bills officiating. Burial was at the Burr Oak Cemetery.
Reed, Ellen Orissa (Hackett).....Lot 138, Sec 2, Grave 5, was born at Burr Oak, Michigan, on 27 September 1841. She passed away on the morning of 4 April 1922 at 8:30 o'clock, being 80 years, 6 months and 7 days old. On 9 November 1862 she was united in marriage to Charles W Reed, having the following children: Mary Jane, Cassius Charles, Thomas Jefferson and Sarah A. Thomas Jefferson is the only child surviving. In 1836 Mrs. Reed's mother, Sarah Washburn came to Michigan from New York state. She was married to Nathan Atrides Hackett and seven children were born; Ellen, Lovinia, Aristides, Sarahan, Aristilla, Nathan and Stella, of which Nathan of Burr Oak, Lovinia of Burr Oak and Aristilla of Norton, Kansas are still living. Mrs Reed was a member of the Baptist Church being a very ardent worker for Christ. She was always ready with a helping hand to soothe and carress the needy. Even at the last moment her hands were raised in motherly love and she smiled her last into the the Great Beyond. Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon from the home northwest of Burr Oak, conducted by Rev. W.R. Kitzmiller. Singing by Mr and Mrs Cyrus Bowdish. Interment in Burr Oak Cemetery.

She was born 4 September 1915, in Jackson, a daughter of Harry A and Letha Fay (Freeland) Murphy. On 29 May 1954, she married Charles Kenneth Reed, in LaGrange, Indiana. She was a 1933 graduate of Colon High School and attended Glen Oaks Community College and attended Western Michigan University. She was a homemaker, was the Colon Township Librarian for 25 years, and was coordinator for the Friendship Center of Colon. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs Joseph (Carla Robbins) Bogucki, Burr Oak, Mary L (Robbins) Hackenberg, Colon, Debra D (Reed) Bietz, Atlanta, Georgia and Anne Marie (Reed) Worley, Colon; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four sister, Willadean Smith, Mrs Mervel (Jean) Delp, Mrs Arthur (Nancy) West, and Mrs Joyce Brandt, all of Colon; a brother, Gerald J Murphy, Bronson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Cliveous Murphy; a grandson, Michael Bogucki; a great-granddaughter, Sarah Kate Bogucki; and twin infant great-granddaughters. Services were held at the Schipper Funeral Home, Ltd., Colon with Rev Ray D Flessner of the Colon United Methodist Church officiating. Burial in Burr Oak Cemetery. Memorials directed to the Colon Township Library.

family when he lived here and worked at his trade as a barber. It was said that
he was 'treated poorly' and departed this place with his family.)

Although unnamed in the article, this was my aunt so know this was in reference to her; Tuesday, July 22nd, 1915... There is more misfortune at the home of Mr and Mrs T.J. Reed--their little daughter again has a broken leg. Monday morning the child, who is just now of creeping age, tipped over while in its rocking chair. Tho the fall was only a few inches, it was sufficient to cause serious trouble for weeks to come. It will be remembered that the the little one broke its leg some months ago, but from this it entirely recovered. Now the break is a re-break, which we surely hope may speedily heal.
