  Sherwood ~ Gene L Johnson, 71, of 607 Farrand Road, Sherwood, a former mobile home worker and farmer, died 4 November 1997 at the Community Health Center of Branch County, Coldwater, following a brief illness.
  He was born 23 September 1926 in Kalamazoo, a son of Martin and Ecco (Rench) Johnson. Most of his life was spent in the Sherwood area after moving there in 1936.
   On 11 June 1948, he marrried Dorothy J Matheson in Union City.
  He was employed by Clark Equipment of Battle Creek, Duo Coach and Divco Wayne, both of Union City, Schult Mobile Homes of Middlebury, Indiana, and Caochman of Centreville. In 1973 he pruchased a farm in Matteson Township and took up farming full time.
   An active member of the Masonic Blue Lodge #421 of Sherwood and Sherwood Forest Chapter #421 Order of the Eastern Star, he served as a former trustee for Matteson Township. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling, gardening and feeding and watching birds.
   Surviving are his wife: two daughters, Mrs George (Sandy) Williams of Three Rivers, Mrs Howard (Linda) Ballman of Sherwood; one son, Bradford Johnson of Vicksburg; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; his sister, Mrs Lester (Glendora) Russell of Colon; one brother, Ray R Johnson of Sherwood; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
   Relatives and friends may call from 6-8p.m. Thursday at the Schipper Funeral Home Ltd. of Colon, where a masonic service is at 7p.m. with the Sherwood Masonic Lodge #421 presiding. Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev Dave Downs of Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazar;ene of Vicksburg officiating. Burial will be in Matteson Cemetery.
  Memorials my be directed to the charity of one's choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Sherwood ~ Services for Gene L Johnson, 71, of 607 Farrand Road, Sherwood, were at 11a.m. on 7 November at the Schipper Funeral Home Ltd., of Colon.
   The Rev Dave Downs of Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazarene of Vicksburg officiated, and Georgia Oldenberg was organist.
    Bearers were Bradford L Johnson, George A Williams, Steven P Williams, David S Williams, Gary R Johnson and Dennis E Russell. Burial was in Matteson Cemetery.
    He died 4 November 1997 at the Community Health Center of Branch County, Coldwater, following a brief illness.

Richard O (Deacon) JONES

  circa 2 March 1993~Sturgis ~ Richard O. (Deacon) JONES, 64, 914 N. Nottawa St., died March 1, 1993, at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo, as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident in Coldwater.
  He was born Feb. 2, 1929, in Noble Township, Branch County, a son of Floyd and Grace (FAIR) JONES.
  On Aug. 18, 1956, he married Nancy CAMERON, in Sturgis.
  He attended Brighton High School and Bronson High School and country school at Trayer. He was a Sturgis resident the past 40 years, coming from Bronson. He had been employed at Formed tubes, and in auto sales for Royeton Chevrolet ~ Cadillac, Dan's Motor Sales, Harvey Loomis Auto Sales and Broker Auto Sales. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Neuman ~ Wenzel Sturgis American Legion Post 73, the Sturgis Elks Lodge, a member and past president of the Three Rivers Antique Classic Auto Club, the Classic Car Club of American, the Antique Automobile Club of America, the Veteran Automobile Club of America, and past president of the Historic Automobile Club oof Michigan. He had brokered antique cars and was a connoisseur of antiques and vehicles.
  Surviving are his wife; one nephew, his wife and son, Terry and Laura HARBAUGH, and Darren, all of Colon; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister and brother-in-law, Arlene HARBAUGH and Irving HARBAUGH.
  Relatives and friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Rosenberg ~ Schipper Funeral Home, Sturgis, where the family will receive friends from 3 ~ 5 p.m. and 7 ~ 9 p.m. Wednesday. Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Terry HERSHEY, Woodinville, Wash., officiating. Burial will be in Trayer Cemetery.
  Memorials may be directed to the Classic Car of America for Library Fund or Trauma Unit of Bronson Methodist Hospital. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
