Yoder, Joseph A......VET, Row 36, Sec 7, Grave 5, 73 years, 64228 Needham Road, died 12 April 1996, at the Sturgis Hospital. He was born 19 October 1922, in Morocco, Indiana, a son of Alvin and Lydia (Hochstetler) Yoder. On 9 May 1943, he married Lois M Young in Centreville. He was a Burr Oak resident more than 50 years. He had owned and operated Yoder's Repair Shop, Inc., Burr Oak, 50 years and he also enjoyed farming. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII and earning the rank of sergeant. He was involved one year in the Civilian Conservation Corps, in Wisconsin. He was a member of the St John's Lutheran Church, Burr Oak, the Neuman-Wenzel Post 73 American Legion, the Burr Oak Board of Education 12 years, the Farm Bureau, the National Rifle Association, and a church elder 15 years. He also was active in the Burr Oak Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his wife, two daughters and sons-in-law, David and Darlene Porter, Forrest Lake, Minnesota, and Ronald and Anita Eldridge, Sturgis; two sons and daughters-in-laws, Joseph (Butch) and Kathy Yoder, Burr Oak, and Eugene and Joyce Yoder, Sturgis, eight grandchildren, Linette, Norman, Jonathon, Joseph II, ------, Ryan, Michelle and Ronald; four great-grandchildren; 20 brothers and sisters; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings. Services were held at St John's Lutheran Church, Burr Oak, with the Rev Kurt Kuhlmann officiating, burial will be in Burr Oak Cemetery with full military rites being conferred by the Captain John J Kelley Post 1355 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorials directed to the St John's Lutheran church or the Burr Oak Volunteer Fire Department.
